About Me
The story of MinaMax
I’m Melissa, and I’m the face behind MinaMax Business Promotions. Although I would now describe myself as a social media manager and writer, my route to doing what I do is rather unconventional to say the least!
After leaving university, I decided to pursue a PhD in Immunology, with a career in the life sciences on my radar. However, I quickly realised that I greatly enjoyed (and had a natural aptitude for) writing, leading me to graduate from my PhD and begin a career in science writing.
I eventually got married and had my first child, and this prompted my first career change – I bought an events-related franchise that I ended up running successfully almost solely through social media. It was in doing this that I gained lots of valuable experience when it came to running a business via social media, learning lots of tips and tricks along the way. The birth of my second child then prompted me to realise that whilst the franchise itself wasn’t for me… social media was!
I began working informally on social media for a couple of businesses, and when I started to see results decided to set the wheels in motion for MinaMax Business Promotions. Combining all the skills I had picked up from my PhD and writing to the experience I had gained in working on social media during my franchise, I knew this was what I was meant to do. Of course, the first hurdle was choosing a name, but luckily my two children helped with that (MinaMax is an amalgamation of their names), and then I was ready and raring to go.
It was important to me that I worked with smaller businesses in a way that offered flexibility - after all, being tied into a long contract or having to spend a minimum monthly amount didn’t appeal to me, so why would it appeal to other small businesses?
Since starting up several years ago now, I have been fortunate to see my business go from strength to strength. I’ve progressed from offering more basic social media management on limited platforms to having a range of packages that allow me to work across a range of platforms. I am also happy to be able to say that whilst I work month to month, many of my clients now use me on a permanent basis and have been with me for years!
When it comes to the writing services I offer, it’s true what they say “variety is the spice of life”! I have written blogs/articles/website content/product descriptions (delete as applicable!) on more topics than I care to think and have learnt a lot during the process! From understanding how Reiki works to what you need to know when applying for a mortgage, all the way through to the history of famous Scottish landmarks – I genuinely enjoy the process of creating a piece that can then be used in whichever way the client requires.
